Poljanka Dolhar (1978) was born in Trieste, where she attended Slovenian-language schools and graduated with a degree in Slovenian studies. She became interested in journalism while still at school and later worked with various media outlets in Italy and Slovenia (including Mladina, Primorske Novicami, and Večer).
Since 2010, she has been a regular employee at the Trieste editorial office of Primorski Dnevnik, the leading newspaper for Slovenians in Italy. She prefers to focus on cultural content. She believes in the power of culture to bring people together, which is why she spends her free time promoting Slovenian Trieste.
In 2011, she and Erika Bezin wrote Kako lep je Trst (How Beautiful Trieste is), the first guide to Slovenian Trieste, which was also published in Italian. In 2014, she edited Tra Carso e Caos (Between Karst and Chaos) with translator Darja Betocchi, a collection of Italian translations of poems by Srečko Kosovel and constructivist drawings by Trieste painter Edvard Stepančič. She is the president of the Slovenian Club, with which she set up a permanent exhibition on the history of the Trieste National Home in 2016. She enjoys reading, traveling, appreciating beauty, and admiring lighthouses.
