Outside the Borders: Memories of a child on the Morgan Line

The book Outside the Borders: Memories of a child on the Morgan Line (...) is proof that it is possible to come to terms with one's past. Its author, Silvio Pecchiari Pečarič, a former post-war refugee, has done just that. He recorded his memories of exile in a diary, which became a genuine historical testimony of loss and the search for home. In conversation with him were the author of the foreword Katja Hrobat Virloget, the translator Fiorella Benčič, and the editor Martina Kafol. At the event, they presented the work, which was published by the Trieste Publishing House. It is the story of a family from Škofije, told through the perspective of a child, little Silvio Pecchiari Pečarič. For historical-political reasons (in 1954, with the London Memorandum, the border in that area shifted, and several settlements ended up on the territory of Jugoslavia), they emigrated from their village. The author also appears in the role of an 80-year-old man, digging into his painful roots in order to heal the wounds of the past.
