About the event
Dimitrij Rupel, foreign minister of the first government of independent Slovenia and a long-time diplomat, presented his new book Leaders of Slovenia: Pučnik, Kučan, Drnovšek, Janša at the Trieste Book Centre last week. In it, he writes about statesmen who, in his opinion, each contributed in their own way, but decisively, to the establishment of the Slovenian nation state.
The author was interviewed by Igor Omerza, a researcher of Slovenian recent history, Damijan Terpin, provincial president of the Slovenian Community party and lawyer, and moderator Ivo Jevnikar. In the introduction, it was said that in the book, the author describes the turning points in Slovenian politics between 1988 and 2009. As he knew Jože Pučnik, Milan Kučan, Janez Drnovšek, and Janez Janša personally, Rupel's accounts of their actions, different profiles, and programs at pivotal moments are both analytical and personal.
